Sibling of the Mayor of the City of San Isidro, Leyte ambushed, dead the sister of the Mayor of the City of San Isidro, Leyte who was riding in a land Cruiser died on arrival at the Kananga Municipal Hospital after she was ambushed at around four in the afternoon December 22, 2022 on the National Highway, Sitio Kamote, Brgy. Libongao, Kananga, Leyte.


On Wednesday, December 21, an ambush on the national highway in Barangay Libongao, Kananga, Leyte, claimed the life of a retired municipal administrator from San Isidro, Leyte.


Juanita Balmoria Veloso, 77, a resident of Barangay Linao in San Isidro and the sister of San Isidro Mayor Remedio Veloso, was the victim, according to police.


According to the initial investigation, the deceased, the driver Edmil Bacay, and a passenger named Leleena Veloso were traveling from Ormoc City to San Isidro in a white sport utility vehicle.  




The driver’s seat passenger Juanita was struck, but Bacay and Leleena were unscathed.

While the suspects fled in the direction of Capoocan, Leyte, Leleena hurried to a grassy area of the road to find refuge.


When Juanita arrived at the hospital, the attending doctor pronounced her dead.


At the crime scene, the Ormoc Forensic Unit discovered 40 empty 5.56mm shells.

Police have notified all nearby units that they are engaged in a hot pursuit operation in order to identify and perhaps apprehend the perpetrators.

Based on the initial investigation, one Juanita Balmoria Veloso, 77 years old, married, retired administrator in San Isidro, Leyte, from Brgy. Linao, San Isidro, Leyte are injured.


He was taken to the hospital and based on preliminary information, he was pronounced dead. Others are safe. The investigation and hot pursuit operation of the police are still ongoing.

This is the car used by those who ambushed the mayor’s brother in San Isidro, Leyte at past four o’clock on the National Highway, Sitio Kamote, Kananga, Leyte. Navarra gray and have a plate number ABN 7103.

Corporal Nicanor Romawak of the Kananga police said the victims were on board a sports utility vehicle around 4 p.m. on Wednesday when the perpetrators, who were on board another vehicle, fired at them.


“Initially, we are considering politics as one of the possible angles,” he said in a phone interview.

Romawak said Mayor Veloso owned the vehicle that transported the victims.

“It could be a case of mistaken identity. The suspects would have thought that the mayor was on board that vehicle,” he said .
