The ACT Teachers party-list has asked the Department of Education (DepEd) to stop the automatic payroll deduction on teachers' loans. "DepEd should not be used to charge private lending institutions for the debts [of teachers]" asserted ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro in a radio interview this Sunday.

"That's why it's necessary to end that trend in lending agencies," added Castro. He said it is not DepEd's job to collect loans from lending agencies. He said the agency should not regret the service fee received from the lending agencies. "There is as much as a 2% service fee that DepEd also benefits from teachers for what they call provident loans," said Castro.
